Open Source Lisbon 2021:

a remarkable event!

June 28th, 2021 — Lisbon, PT // The Open Source Lisbon keeps growing every year. For the second year in a row, the event had to reinvent itself to overcome all the barriers caused by the current pandemic situation.

This special edition of a two-day event had a virtual crowd of over 700 open source enthusiasts from all over the world. On June 17th and 18th, the attendees were able to watch several sessions about the Open Source software strategy outlined by the European Commission and the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union. And also, about how Open Source technologies are building a new world and transforming the community.

The first day of the event was dedicated to the public sector, where the attendees heard testimonials from the Portuguese Presidency and the European Union, including names like Alexandra Leitão, André de Aragão Azevedo, Mário Campolargo, Thierry Breton, Pia Karger, amongst others. Under several themes, the speakers shared with the audience how Open source solutions can reduce market entry barriers for innovative companies and cutting costs for users, including reducing the burden of switching providers and improve market competition and technology neutrality.

The second day of the event was dedicated to the community. Under the theme 'Open Source Mindset in a Shifting World'the attendees got the chance to learn more about collaborative code, translation layers, open innovation for social good, and more. Also watch technical sessions about solutions like databases on kubernetes, cloud-native, and how to solve complex problems and avoid code duplication.

It was a couple of days filled with inspiration, guests sharing their ideas, projects, and mainly, the passion for Open Source technologies. As stated by Hugo Oliveira, Syone's Chief Marketing Officer:

"This special edition was a great experience! We were able to bring new themes this year, allowing attendees to learn more about the Public Sector open source strategy. The digital version is not an innovative format anymore and it was a huge challenge to keep up with the high standards to the audience. However, we can say it was a success by the incredibly positive feedback from attendees, sponsors, and speakers. We hope to have our regular in person event next year, with online access as well of course."
